Tipped-Worker Minimum Wage Increase Proposed

(Dover, DE) -- New legislation is being introduced to change the minimum wage for restaurant servers and others who rely heavily on tips in Delaware. House Bill 252, sponsored by Representative Kim Williams, changes the wage from two dollars and twenty-three cents per hour to no less than 65-percent of the state's regular minimum wage, which is set to increase to nine-twenty-five in October. The bill notes the tipped-worker minimum wage has not increased since 1983. Another bill introduced yesterday requires that tips come directly from customers, not from "tip pools."
