'Multiple Fatalities' Following Hostage Situation In Oregon

A hostage situation in Salem, Oregon, ended in tragedy after shots were fired. Officials said that there were multiple fatalities, including the suspect. The Marion County Sheriff's Office issued a brief statement but did not provide many details about the incident. Officials said that after deputies arrived on the scene, a trained hostage negotiator called the suspect and attempted to de-escalate the situation.

"As the incident unfolded, shots were fired. Ultimately, there were multiple fatalities, including that of the suspect," the department said.

Authorities described the incident as an officer-involved shooting and said that no deputies were injured. Officials did not say what led to the shooting or how many shots were fired. The officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave, and the investigators with the Oregon State Police have taken over the investigation.

Neighbors were shocked by the disturbance in their quiet neighborhood.

"I heard three shots, and then within five minutes, I heard bang," Katie O'Kelly told KPTV.

O'Kelly told the station that she saw at least three bodies being removed from the home.

"The sirens I heard were all the ambulances coming in," she told FOX12. "They loaded three different people that I could see. One of them right in front of my house."
