Four of the nearly 50 victims injured after a van plowed through a crowd of Liverpool FC supporters during a victory parade are reported to be "very, very ill," Liverpool City Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram said in an update via the BBC.

The driver, identified only as a 53-year-old white British man, was detained after plowing through crowds during a celebration of the club's English Premier League title, which was reported to be attended by at least 1 million fans. Police said 27 victims, including children, were rushed to local hospitals, while another 20 received treatment at the scene.

“Still four people who are very, very ill in [the] hospital," Rotheram said via the BBC. "We are hoping, of course, that they pull through."

Authorities said they didn't believe the incident was an act of terrorism during Monday's update. The driver is suspected to have been following an ambulance into the street, which had been closed to traffic, and panicked once he realized he was driving through a crowd of people, who then began to bang on his car, according to witnesses.

The 10-mile parade went through Liverpool city center with Liverpool FC players and staff in an open-top bus carrying the Premier League trophy. Liverpool FC won the Premier League title for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic and the parade fell on the same date as Spring Bank Holiday in the United Kingdom.
