The San Antonio Spurs and point guard De'Aaron Fox have agreed to a $229 million maximum contract extension, his agent, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul, confirmed to ESPN's De'Aaron Fox on Monday (August 4).
"BREAKING: San Antonio Spurs star De'Aaron Fox has agreed to a four-year, $229 million maximum contract extension with the franchise, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul told ESPN. The max deal secures Fox's future in San Antonio through the 2029-30 season," Charania wrote on his X account.
Fox, 27, who was acquired by the Spurs in a three-team trade with the Sacramento Kings, his former team, and the Chicago Bulls in February, had one year remaining on his previous contract. The veteran point guard averaged 19.7 points and 6.8 assists in 17 games for the Spurs in 2025 before undergoing season-ending surgery in March to repair tendon damage in his left pinkie, an injury he played through since training camp with the Kings last October.
The new deal ensures that Fox will be the long-term option at point guard paired with franchise star center Victor Wembanyama. Fox and Wembanyama were limited to only five games as teammates as the center suffered a blood clot in his right shoulder, which ended his season in February.
The two are reported to have developed a close relationship, according to Charania. The Spurs have a talent young nucleus with two consecutive NBA Rookie of the Year Award winners in Wembanyama and guard Stephon Castle, who was selected at No. 4 overall in the 2024 NBA Draft, along with guard Dylan Harper, who was selected at No. 2 overall in the 2025 NBA Draft in June.
