DOWN TO THE WIRE: GOP +1 in 66 ‘TOSSUP’ Races, Dems Up 11 on Generic Ballot
A stunning new poll released by ABC News this week sheds new light on the current state of the 2018 midterm elections; showing the GOP leading Democrats by one point in 66 pivotal “tossup” races and Democrats up 11 points on the generic ballot.
“Democrats have a 53-42 percent edge in the generic ballot for the House. But inside the 66 districts that are tossups, or only leaning toward one party or the other — the majority makers, or breakers — that lead evaporates into a 46-47 Democrats v. Republicans race,” writes the survey.
“It’s a similar dynamic — driven by Democratic strength in cities, and weaknesses in rural areas — that is driving House and Senate forecasts in opposite directions, amid a campaign close set to be dominated by the president,” adds the article.
The poll comes exactly three weeks before American voters head to the polls to decide the direction of the country.
